How to do a basic adjustment of the button ?

This one’s a heavy hitter: the button adjustment.

It’s such a big topic that we’ve split it into two parts: a simplified adjustment and a more precise fine-tuning.

In this newsletter, we’re focusing on part 1:
how to do the initial, basic adjustment of the button?

In a previous newsletter, we covered how to align your bow’s limbs. Once you’ve done that, and before adjusting the button, it’s crucial to align your sight and pre-set the arrow alignment. Then you’re all set!

Aligning the sight (if you have one!)

Now that your string is centered with the grip and wedges, the next step is simple: align the center of your sight tunnel with everything else.
All you need to do is adjust the sight’s horizontal position.

Arrow must leave the theoretical center of the bow !

With your string and sight aligned, final step is to adjust arrow’s position.
Tip of the arrow should extend slightly outward — just a bit (usually no more than half the shaft) — to the left for right-handers and to the right for left-handers.

Now that your bow is set up, you’re ready to dive into the simplified tuning of your button !

Example of a left-handed bow: have the end of the arrow protrude slightly to the right (the opposite for a right-hander).

How do you tune your button?

Start by hanging a strip of paper about 10-12 cm wide on the target (a folded trispot works well too).

From about 20 meters away, shoot several feathered arrows, aiming at same spot on the strip each time. Then, finish your round by shooting one non-feathered arrow.

Two things could happen:

 > If you’re right-handed and non-feathered arrow lands to the right from the others, your button is too soft, so you’ll need to tighten the spring. If you’re left-handed, it’s the opposite: you’ll need to soften the button or loosen the spring.

 > If you’re right-handed and non-feathered arrow lands to the left from the others, your button is too stiff, so you’ll need to loosen the spring. Again, for left-handed archers, it’s the reverse.

Repeat the process until…

Your non-feathered arrow is hitting the same spot as your feathered arrows on paper strip !

Once that happens, your arrow setup is tuned, and you’ll be ready for finer adjustments, which we’ll explain in our next newsletter !
