Flow and Archery: the optimal mindset with Uukha

25 sept. 2025

You’ve probably noticed it: we always use #FeelTheFlow in our communications.
But why?

First of all… what flow is?

A quick bit of history (don’t worry, this will be short!).

The concept of flow comes from Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (We’ll admit it - it’s not the easiest name to spell), who observed in 1970s that some people could become so absorbed and focused on a task that they would forget to drink, eat, or even sleep.

Flow is an optimal mental state where a person is fully immersed and concentrated in an activity, experiencing complete fluidity and an intense sense of enjoyment.

In short: flow feels amazing!

What’s the link with archery?

Sports are one of the best ways to enter this state of flow and of course, archery is no exception!

How can you feel the flow?

With practice and right focus, some clear signs will help you identify when you’re in a flow state:

- You feel like everything is perfectly aligned and under control - technically, physically, mentally.

- You’re not stressed, tired, bored, or overexcited. You just feel good, calm, centered, fully present.

- You’re in the moment. For example, that arrow you don’t even need to watch because you’re sure it’s in center? That’s when you’ve got it - that’s flow.

When Alicia Baumert felt the flow...

Alicia Baumert fully experienced this state of flow last August in Chengdu at World Games.

“I mostly remember my emotional and physical state in that moment. I wasn’t like a robot, I was just listening to my coach Christine - and that was it.”

It was this state of flow - that perfect balance between what she knew how to do and what she needed to do - that allowed her to win the most prestigious barebow title.
She had complete confidence in her Uukha equipment, her well-being and motivation were so strong that the weather conditions no longer mattered.
And at the end of it all: victory.

And what about you?

What if you could feel the flow ?
